Jolie worked with the United Nations for 12 years as a Goodwill Ambassador before being given the rank of Special Envoy for the High Commissioner on April 17, 2012. As the Special Envoy for the High Commissioner, she can work as a diplomat to facilitate long-term solutions for people affected by large-scale crises. We can see positive reactions to Jolie's work when she receives humanitarian awards. Some of the awards Jolie has received are; the Inaugural Humanitarian Award(2002), the Citizen Of The World(2003) and the Global Humanitarian Award(2005). Jolie affects change with her many foundations. The Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation(2003) helps with community development and environmental conservation in Cambodia. The Jolie-Pitt Foundation(2003) helps with humanitarian causes world wide. The Education Partnership For Children Of Conflict(2007) fund education programs for children affect by man-made or natural disasters. Kids In Need Of Defense(2008) provides legal counsel for unaccompanied immigrant children in the US. Jolie tries to make positive changes in the lives of people all over the world. For example, on February 10, 2010 Jolie went to Haiti where she visited and talked to earthquake survives. Jolie said "she wanted to listen and learn." After several visits to Haiti in 2010 she established the Jolie Legal Fellows Program to recruit lawyers to support governmental children protection efforts in Haiti. All of her work and foundations are in support of children or refugees to improve their quality of life.
